Description:

GLIMP-MP-1 TABLET is a fixed drug combination which is used to control the blood sugar levels. Along with the medicine, healthy dietary intake and exercise is needed to improve the disease course in patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus. In diabetes there is insulin sensitivity which decreases the cellular uptake of Glucose thus raising the Serum Glucose levels. The drug allows proper utilization of insulin by the cells thus lowering the Serum sugar level. This drug can cause hypoglycemia if taken along with other anti diabetic drug.

Uses / Indications:

The drug is used for the management of diabetes mellitus type 2. It also aids in removing extra Glucose from the body through urine. By managing diabetes, patients also decrease the risk of micropathies associated with diabetes like nephropathy, neuropathy and retinopathy. The risk of stroke and myocardial infarction is also reduced. It is also used for maturity onset diabetes and polycystic ovarian syndrome.

How to use:

The drug is to be swallowed whole. It is not advised to chew or crush the medicine. It is to be taken in a specific dose at a specific time of the day. Before taking the drug, the patient must inform the physician regarding any other existing health condition. Monitoring of blood sugar is advised on a daily basis. A kidney function test must also be done before the medicine is started.

How it works:

Glimepiride is a drug belonging to the class of sulfonyl drugs which are secretagogues. They increase the amount of insulin released by the beta cells of pancreas in order to decrease the Serum Glucose level by increasing the cellular uptake. Metformin is a biguanide which increases the sensitivity of the cells of the body towards insulin. It also acts on the liver by decreasing the Glucose production in the liver. It acts on intestines as well by delaying the Glucose absorption from the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract. Pioglitazone is a thiazolidinediones, which acts on PPAR gamma resulting in increased sensitivity of cells towards insulin.
